Velociraptor, meaning "swift seizer" in Latin is a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived approximately 75 to 71 million years ago during the latter part of the Cretaceous Period. Velociraptor was roughly the size of a turkey, adults measuring up to 2.07 m (6 ft 9 in) long, 0.5 m (1 ft 7 in) high at the hip, and weighing up to 15 kg (33 lb) considerably smaller than the depictions in fictional film. Paleontologists have long believed like many other dinosaurs Velociraptor was feathered. It wasn't until 2007 when quill knobs were found on a specimen from Mongolia. This is the proof needed that verifies what they had long suspected. Velociraptor had feathers!
